This European Day of Languages (September 26th 2025) our French Section students dove into a different linguistic and scientific experience! As part of a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) project some teachers taught a set of mathematics lessons entirely in English. French students tackled math concepts, terminology, and problem-solving through the medium of English, providing a dynamic challenge and a fantastic opportunity to:
• Reinforce core mathematical skills while simultaneously developing academic English proficiency.
• Acquire subject-specific vocabulary (e.g., vertex, exponent, set) in a real-world, practical context anchored in English culture and literature.
• Experience cross-curricular learning, illustrating the interconnectedness of subjects and cultures.
Why CLIL?
CLIL is a highly effective educational approach where a subject (like Maths) is taught in full immersion through a non-native language (like English). This project vividly showcased how language learning isn’t confined to the language classroom—it’s an essential tool for all aspects of life and study. It also aligns perfectly with the spirit of the European schools fostering the multilingual competence and highlighting intercultural understanding and the European dimension within our school community. Our sincere congratulations to our students for their enthusiasm in this cross-disciplinary project !
