Librarian – Secondary school from 01.09.2025 Part-time – Mondays to Fridays, from 08h00 to around 13h00

The European School in Karlsruhe has around 1,000 pupils aged between 3 and 18 in three language sections (German, English and French). We are looking for a Librarian (part-time) for the secondary school. Candidates are required to hold a library science degree or a bachelor’s degree in information and library management or an equivalent qualification.

Main tasks:

  • Management and administration of the secondary school pupils’ and teachers’ library
  • Management and development of the media collection
  • Supervision, advice and assistance to pupils in their research in databases and in the reading room
  • Coordinating the borrowing and return of resources
  • Classifying (indexing) and managing the document collection using the dedicated computer system
  • Managing the library budget and orders for the three language sections
  • Organising events, such as themed exhibitions or author readings, etc.
  • Planning and implementing training for pupils and teachers on the effective use of library resources and services
  • Working with teachers on library-related activities and on integrating information and media skills into teaching
  • Regular meetings with the school management
  • Preparation of reports and statistics on the library for the school management
  • Strategic development of the library system at ESK in close cooperation with the school management
  • Ensuring compliance with library guidelines and procedures as well as data protection regulations

Profile of the successful candidate:

  • Qualified librarian or bachelor’s degree in library and information management or equivalent qualification
  • Professional experience in fields related to the position would be an asset
  • Interest and experience in pedagogy and pupil relations would be an asset
  • Good computer skills and experience using library software, ideally the ‘Oliver’ software we use
  • Interest and open-mindedness towards new media technologies and data formats
  • Accuracy, organisational skills, sense of responsibility and creativity
  • Fluent in at least two of the three languages used in European schools (German, English or French)
  • Team spirit, flexibility and openness to new challenges

The successful candidate will work under the management of the Deputy Director Secondary School at the European School in Karlsruhe in a multilingual and multicultural environment.
