From 4 to 6 May, the students represented the ESK at the MATh.en.JEANS congress held in Strasbourg. There, they presented their research work in French to an audience of students, teachers and researchers from various schools. The event also offered the opportunity to visit the Strasbourg Planetarium and to attend numerous scientific presentations, lectures (including Moreno Andreatta – mathnpop.com, Francesca Rizzo – The Mathematics of Origami, Vincent Duchêne – Exploring Solitons) and performances (such as Un monde (presque) parfait | Cie Esprit Joueur) related to mathematics. These experiences allowed the students to discover new approaches to the discipline and to broaden their understanding of the world of research.
The students explained their research processes with both rigour and enthusiasm, sharing not only their results but also the questions and trial‑and‑error moments that accompany any scientific endeavour (link to the students’ presentations). All of them returned enriched by this experience, both scientifically and personally. The congress is an important milestone each year in the MATh.en.JEANS programme: it enables students to experience mathematical research first-hand, to meet other young people who share the same passion, and to develop autonomy, cooperation and self‑confidence.
On Friday afternoon, 24 April, ahead of the congress, a public rehearsal was held in the Conference Room of the European School. During this session, the students also presented their work in French. This rehearsal allowed the different groups to practise their scientific presentations and to receive valuable feedback to further improve the clarity and quality of their talks.
Congratulations to all the students for their dedication, curiosity and commitment to this wonderful mathematical adventure!
