S4MA6 Highlights Languages: Mathematics, L2 and the JRC!

Each year, the European Day of Languages reminds us of the importance of linguistic diversity at the European School Karlsruhe. Although the school was closed on Saturday, 26 September, the S4MA6 students marked the occasion on Tuesday, 28 September, with an interdisciplinary classroom activity combining mathematics, languages and an introduction to the JRC.

Mathematical problems… presented in L2

Students from the three language sections gathered to share mathematical problems based on real situations from the JRC in Karlsruhe (link to the presentation booklet). A distinctive feature of the activity: the presentations were delivered in their second language (L2).

This activity allowed students to:

  • discover aspects of the work carried out at the JRC,
  • strengthen their ability to explain and argue in another language.

A rich exchange about the JRC Karlsruhe

The discussions helped students gain a better understanding of the role of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in the region and to explore professional situations from a mathematical perspective. The session offered a moment of cultural and scientific exchange appreciated by the whole group.
